Chapel 3: variation
The sections of the dome of
Chapel 3 describe circular arcs. The dome itself appears twisted only because the angle at which its sections are attached to the base makes them to deviate sideways as they raise. That deviation can be avoided by alternating the orientation of the modules which form the sections. The result is a hybrid
tetrahedric curve which merges circular and helical segments, so undulating and compensating the deviation. The sections so built raise directly to the top, making up an upright, untwisted dome:
